| Mission
The José Jaime Pierluisi Foundation was established on June 7, 1994 as a memorial
to honor José Jaime Pierluisi in recognition of his intelligence, honesty, loyalty,
selflessness, vision and commitment to the betterment of Puerto Rico. The Foundation's
main objective is to provide financial aid to students who exemplifies José Jaime's
qualities and who are enrolled in Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. Through
each scholarship awarded the Foundation tries to positively impact every student,
providing at the same time better leaders for our community. |
| Description
José Jaime Pierluisi The Foundation has created the José Jaime Pierluisi
Scholarship to award full or partial scholarships to students who attend graduate
school programs in Business Administration or Public Administration. |

Jaime Pierluisi-Chamber of Commerce
The Foundation and the
Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce have created the José Jaime Pierluisi-Chamber
of Commerce Scholarship to award full or partial scholarships to students who
attend graduate school programs with course emphasis in finance or economics.

| Preference
In awarding the scholarships, the Foundation will give preference to students
who (a) are domiciled in Puerto Rico, (b) are committed to return to and work
in Puerto Rico after their graduation, (c)have a strong record of academic achievement,
(d) have high moral standards, (e) have outstanding leadership potential, (f)
have a serious interest in contributing to the needs of society and (g) exemplify
José Jaime Pierluisi's human qualities |
| Application
Procedures
Students interested in being considered for the
Scholarship Program must provide the Foundation with the following items: (a)
completed application, (b) copy of the official transcript from the applicant's
undergraduate institution, (c) copy of letter of admission to graduate school
program (d) certificate of good conduct from the Puerto Rico Police Department
and (e) essay required in the application form. The required application materials
must be submitted by hand or by mail no later than June 24, 2005 at the offices
of the Foundation, Iberia I, Suite E, 554 Perseo Street, San Juan, Puerto Rico
00920, Tel. 783-8816. Questions regarding the Scholarship application procedures
can be directed at the Foundation. |
| Selection
Procedures
The Scholarship Committee of the Foundation will
review all applications submitted and select a group of Finalists to be interviewed.
In addition to the Preference standards stated above, the Scholarship Committee
will evaluate the applicants based on their past academic performance, verbal
and writing skills and overall potential to perform well in a graduate school.
The Finalists will be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee of the Foundation
during July, 2005. |
| Use
of Funds
The Scholarship funds may be used by the Recipient(s)
for tuition, fees, books, room and board expenses. Other expenses, such as transportation
between Puerto Rico and the graduate school, must be specifically approved by
the Foundation. The Foundation may withhold or terminate the Scholarship due to
unsatisfactory academic performance (such as the failure to maintain at least
a B average) or failure to continue to meet the Preference standards stated above.
To receive payments, the Recipients(s) will have to submit to the Foundation the
following items: (a) a certified statement of eligible expenses prior to the beginning
of each academic term for which the Foundation support is sought, (b) relevant
academic progress reports and (c) other information as may be required by applicable
regulations or laws. The Foundation will reserve the right to make payments directly
to academic institutions. |
| Guaranty
At the end of their study program, the Recipient(s) will be
required to work in Puerto Rico for a period equal to the greater of: (a) one
year or (b) the Scholarship period. The Recipient(s) will be personally responsible
to obtain employment in Puerto Rico at the end of the study program. Should the
Recipient(s) not comply with this requirement, he or she (they) will be obligated
to return all funds received under the Scholarship to the Foundation. The Recipient's
obligation must be guaranteed by two guarantors acceptable to the Foundation.
